Our Approach

Two Parks, Five Days, No Rushing

Tarangire and Ngorongoro sit at opposite ends of the northern circuit spectrum. Tarangire is wide, baobab-dense, and defined by one of Africa's highest elephant concentrations. Ngorongoro is enclosed, high-altitude, and among the most wildlife-dense environments on the continent. Five days gives enough time to experience both properly.

Two days in Tarangire, including the quieter southern section most vehicles skip, means you leave the park having actually explored it rather than crossed it. The drive to Ngorongoro through the highlands adds a landscape transition that primes the eye for the crater the following morning.

This circuit works as a standalone journey and equally as an extension to a Kilimanjaro climb, a Zanzibar beach stay, or a business visit to Arusha. Private vehicle and guide throughout.

Before You Book

What makes Tarangire worth two to three days?

Tarangire's elephant herds are the highest density anywhere in northern Tanzania during dry season, groups of 50 to 100 animals along the river are common. The baobab landscape is visually unlike any other park. A second day consistently rewards guests who were unsure about spending more than one night.

Is Ngorongoro a full-day experience?

Yes. The crater floor is 260 square kilometres and a full morning is the minimum required. A morning descent, crater game drive, and picnic lunch inside is standard. Some guests request a second crater day, which we arrange with an additional night.

Is this suitable after a Kilimanjaro climb?

Yes. Four to five days of game drives is a natural physical transition after the mountain. The contrast between high-altitude trekking and watching elephants from a vehicle is one of the reasons this combination is popular.

Can we add Olduvai Gorge?

Yes. On the Day 4 highland transit, a stop at Olduvai Gorge takes about 90 minutes and adds significant context to the landscape you have been moving through.

What is the difference between this and the Short Northern Escape?

One day. The Short Northern Escape is 4 days with two nights in Tarangire and one in Ngorongoro. This 5-day version adds a third Tarangire night and the southern section, allowing for a more relaxed exploration of the park.

Can Zanzibar be added after the crater?

Yes. A domestic flight from Arusha to Zanzibar takes 90 minutes. We arrange the flight and full Zanzibar stay as part of a combined journey.
