THE JOURNEY

The Northern Circuit, Done Properly

The northern Tanzania circuit has been earning its reputation for decades. Three parks, three entirely distinct ecosystems, and enough wildlife between them to permanently alter what you think a safari can be. The sequence, Tarangire first, then Serengeti, then Ngorongoro, builds in a way that works. Each park teaches the eye something the next park deepens.

What makes the difference is not the parks themselves but the pace. Tarangire with a single game drive is a highlight. Tarangire with two full days becomes an experience. The classic safari can be shaped from 7 to 10 days depending on how deeply you want to move through each destination, and we adjust the accommodation, transfers, and game drive days accordingly.

We plan and operate this journey from Moshi. Private vehicle, private guide, and a route that moves at your speed. The classic circuit works for first-time visitors, returning guests who want more time in specific parks, and groups of all sizes.

BEST TIME

When to Go

The classic circuit delivers strong wildlife in every month of the year. The dry season is the most popular window but the green season has its own rewards.

June to October, Dry Season Peak
JuneJulyAugustSeptemberOctober

Excellent visibility, animals concentrate around water, and all three parks perform at their strongest. The most popular window for the classic safari. Book accommodation early.

January and February, Calving Season
JanuaryFebruary

Southern Serengeti calving produces extraordinary predator activity. Warm and dry across all three parks. Strong alternative to peak season with fewer vehicles.

November and March-April, Green Season
NovemberMarchApril

Lush landscapes, reduced rates, and fewer vehicles. Wildlife is present across all parks and the vegetation creates photographic conditions unavailable in the dry season.

COMMON QUESTIONS

About This Journey

Questions asked most often by guests considering this journey.

Is 7 days enough for the northern circuit?
Seven days is the minimum that allows all three parks to feel properly experienced rather than rushed. Each park receives meaningful time. If your schedule allows 8 or more days, the extra time in Serengeti is the single best addition.
What is the best duration for a first-time visitor?
Eight days. It gives Tarangire a proper two nights, Serengeti two full days, and Ngorongoro a crater morning, without compression. Seven days works if the timeline is fixed. Ten days allows the full circuit with Lake Manyara.
Can the route be customised?
Yes. Standard adjustments include adding Lake Manyara, spending more nights in one park, changing the accommodation tier in specific locations, and adding a Zanzibar extension. Everything is flexible.
Is this suitable for solo travellers?
Yes. Solo travellers join our private departures or we organise a fully private solo journey. We advise on the single supplement and any other logistics during planning.
What happens if wildlife sightings are poor?
Tanzania's northern parks have reliably high wildlife density across all months. Your guide can reposition based on sightings and park intelligence. We set honest expectations and have never had a circuit that failed to deliver.
Can this journey include Zanzibar?
Yes. A domestic flight from Arusha connects the safari circuit to Zanzibar in 90 minutes. Five days on the coast after the classic circuit is one of our most popular combined itineraries.
