Our Approach

From 5,895 Metres to Sea Level

Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar are geographic opposites within the same country. The summit stands at 5,895 metres in a glaciated alpine zone; the Zanzibar coast sits at sea level on a coral island in the Indian Ocean. The contrast is one of the most vivid transitions available in a single journey, and it happens within 90 minutes by domestic flight.

After descending from the mountain, a rest day in Moshi allows the altitude and physical demands to settle before the flight. Five nights on the island provide genuine decompression: Stone Town for culture, then the north coast for beach days and the particular calm of the Indian Ocean at evening.

Both parts of this journey are operated by us from Moshi. The Kilimanjaro guide team, lead guide, assistants, cook, and porters, are selected for safety, experience, and attitude on the mountain. The Zanzibar stay is arranged with the same care as any of our island journeys.

Common Questions

Before You Book

Which Kilimanjaro route is used?
The Machame Route (7 days) is the standard route for this combination. For guests prioritising summit success, we recommend the Lemosho Route (8 days), which provides better acclimatisation. Both connect naturally to the Zanzibar stay.
How fit do I need to be?
Kilimanjaro requires endurance but not technical climbing experience. Good aerobic fitness, a prior hiking background, and realistic expectations about high-altitude discomfort are the most important preparation factors. We provide a full preparation guide.
Why Zanzibar rather than a safari after the mountain?
After the physical demands of Kilimanjaro, many guests want genuine rest rather than more activity. Zanzibar provides that: a beach, calm water, and a low-altitude environment where the body fully recovers. Guests who want both wildlife and beach should consider the three-part combination: Kilimanjaro, safari, and Zanzibar.
Is the domestic flight direct from Moshi?
Most domestic flights depart from Kilimanjaro International Airport, which is 1 hour from Moshi. We manage the full airport transfer and Zanzibar arrival as part of the journey.
Can a safari be added between Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar?
Yes. Three to five safari days can be inserted, creating the complete three-part Tanzania journey: mountain, wildlife, and beach. Contact us to discuss the full combination.
What is the summit success rate?
On the Machame Route with a 7-day itinerary, experienced operators achieve 85–90% summit success. The Lemosho Route (8 days) pushes this above 90%. Success rates decline significantly on shorter routes, which we do not offer.
