Overview

The Rongai route is the least well travelled route on the mountain. It is on the northern side and whilst it is a long drive to starting point but you are rewarded by fantastic views and the like hood that you will be only climbers around. There are magnificent views over the Kenyan Plains and genuine possibilities for wildlife viewing. This route normally takes 6 days, however we highly recommend 7 days to allow more time for acclimatization. Our experienced team will prepare you delicious meals and be there to answer any of your queries as they arise.

Below is an example itinerary, all our programs are flexible and tailored to the individual groups so please let us know if you would like to make any changes. The day before your climb you will receive a full briefing from our climbing team, all your equipment will receive a final check and we will be able to answer any of your questions

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA). After passport control, our friendly driver will be waiting outside the arrival lounge carrying a signage with your name on it ready to drive you to your Accommodation in Moshi (Approx 40 -50 minutes). Enjoy a great meal and a relaxing evening before Starting your Adventure on the next day.

Accommodation: Hotel/Lodge in Moshi

Day 1 Simba Camp (2,625 M)

In the Morning our Mountain Guide & Crew support will arrive and meet you up at the hotel for a quick briefing and after you will be transferred by vehicle to Kilimanjaro National Park's northern entrance: Nalemuru Gate (2,020 m). After the quick formality of acquiring climbing permits and registering with the search and rescue service, the group will start trekking up to Simba Camp (2,625 m). Your trek this day will be moderate and take you through coniferous forest up Kilimanjaro's northern slope. Remember not to hurry and always keep a comfortable pace. By the time you reach the camp, our professional mountain crew will prepare everything necessary, put tents and cook dinner for you.

This being your first day at high altitude we strongly recommend the following:

  1. Abstain from taking any caffeine or alcohol.
  2. Drink water often, at least 3 liters per day from time to time.
  3. Ensure to take Diamox for relief from altitude sickness symptoms. It is usually taken in the morning before the day’s climbing. Consult your physician before undertaking the trip to check for possible contraindications.
  4. Heed your body’s warnings and promptly inform your guide of any adverse symptoms.

Acclimatization-associated discomfort is common at night when your body gets less oxygen than during the day. This is normally expressed in the form of nausea and headaches.
